The Top Guns proved again they are a force to be reckoned with taking the Hustlers all the way and gaining a deserved point. Although the Hustlers still have a commanding lead of six points in the title race, the result will give the other title contenders the Entertainers and the Flukesters a glimmer of hope of sneaking the title away from the 5 time champions. The Entertainers stepped up their challenge with a fantastic 12-2 drubbing of a tough Murray team. The 'tainers responded in perfect fashion to their previous draws against the Hotshots with star man Davie McKinnon taking away two class finishes.
In the battle for fourth, after two fantastic performances, the Hotshots found themselves running up against a wall in the Greenhills who took the match 9-5. The victory extends the 'hills' lead to 4 points and at this late stage in the season, it will be a hard task for the Hotshots to overcome.
In League 2, the Westwood recorded their first win since the 13th of October, and it was made even sweeter by the fact they only had 6 players, giving away a 2-0 start to the Also Rans.
Both the Hunters and the Sharpshooters kept up their challenge for the league 2 title, win impressive 11-3 and 10-4 wins over the Eagles and Centre One respectively, while the Tower won out against the Greenhills Shooters 8-6 in a middle of the table battle.
Full results as follows:
League 1
Top Guns 7-7 Hustlers
Entertainers 12-2 Murray
Greenhills 9-5 Hotshots
League 2
Hunters 11-3 Eagles
Tower 8-6 Greenhills Shooters
Also Rans 6-8 Westwood
Sharpshooters 10-4 Centre One
Tomorrow night sees a host of mouth watering fixtures, with the battle for 4th between Greenhills and Hotshots just shading it for my tie of the week. Although still a lot of pool left, if the Greenhills win this one, they will stretch their lead to 4 points over the visitors, and at this stage in the season it could prove to be the win that claims the coveted spot. Leading up to this game, the 'hills have struggled going down 8-6 to Club 2000 while the Hotshots have had two fantastic draws against the Entertainers. Will form come into play and see the Hotshots leapfrog into 4th, or will they feel the backlash from the 'hills?
The Top Guns host current leaders the Hustlers and will be hoping to repeat the form of last Tuesday which saw them overcome the odds and snatch a point at the expense of the Flukesters. The Top Guns are more than capable of getting a result in this one, but the Hustlers are riding a 17 game unbeaten run which has seen them secure a six point gap in the title race.
Elsewhere in league 1 the Entertainers return back to action against the Murray after both teams having a layoff last week. The Murray's prior result was a 9-5 humbling of the Flukesters and their confidence will be sky high with that, and double by the fact that the Entertainers have slumped in recent weeks dropping points to the Hotshots. The main factor in the game however will be how the 'tainers bounce back, and they may just be rejuvenated by newly appointed captains Stuart Robertson and Grant McNairn.
In league 2 the Hunters and the Sharpshooters look to keep the pressure on current leaders the Aces, facing off against two teams languishing at the basement of the league in the Eagles and Centre One.
Elsewhere, the Also Rans look to make it two in a row for the second time this season against Westwood, and the Tower host the Greenhills Shooters.
Full fixtures as follows:
League 1
Top Guns - Hustlers
Entertainers - Murray
Greenhills - Hotshots
League 2
Hunters - Eagles
Tower - Greenhills Shooters
Also Rans - Westwood
Sharpshooters - Centre One
The last two weeks in the EKPL have had an immense impact on the league as a whole. The Hustlers now look certain to retain the title for a historic fifth time and third time straight. They ground out an 8-6 victory against Club 2000 while their fellow challengers dropped points in important games. The Entertainers could only scrape a draw with the Hotshots for the second week running, while the Flukesters had two bad trips to the Murray bar, losing the first 9-5 against the Murray, and drawing vs the Top Guns. The results see the reigning champions 6 points ahead of the field with a game in hand. While still a lot of pool still to be played, the title is surely the Hustlers to lose now.
Meanwhile the race for 4th is still hotly contested with the Hotshots pulling out another fantastic performance against the Entertainers, the Greenhills losing a closely fought battle against Club 2000, and the Murray and the Top Guns both pulling out excellent results against the Flukesters. This leaves Greenhills still in pole position, however their lead has been shortened to 1 point.
In the bottom 9, the Aces lead the way with back to back victories post split, now their fourth in a row, although the Sharpshooters are still chasing, just 4 points behind.
Westwood managed to heave themselves off the bottom of the table with a great result against the SS, coming back to draw the match 7-7, which now leaves them and Centre One tied at the bottom, however the Eagles loss to the SS last night leaves them dangerously close to the bottom only 3 points ahead of the bottom spot.

As the dust settled last night, 8 teams progress through to the quarter final of the league cup, with the other 8 falling into the Sliver cup.
In the tie of the round, The Greenhills pipped the Murray 7-4 in a heated match between the rivals, with the win for the 'hills setting up a mouth watering tie with the Hotshots who took advantage of missed chances from Club 2000 to run out 7-2 winners.
Both the Flukesters and the Hustlers cruised to 7-1 and 7-0 wins over Westwood and Centre One repectively to set up a clash of the titans in the quarter final between the sides.
Meanwhile the Eagles made the Entertainers work hard for the win, pushing them right into the doubles before the 2007 cup winners eventually saw the off with some neat doubles play. The Entertainers now face an away trip to the Top Guns who defeated Hunters 7-2, while the Aces will match up against the Greenhills Shooters to complete the quarter final matches.
